James Rumsey Vocational-Technical Center was started in August 1970 as a 2.5 million dollar functioning reality offering 13 areas of technical training. First year enrollment consisted of 289 high school students, 110 full-time adult students, and 204 part-time, evening students. The school’s name changed in the early 1990s to reflect the changing curriculum. Today, fifty years later, there are 18 high school programs and 9 adult programs offered at JRTl with an annual full-time enrollment of approximately 600 students, of which about 130 of those students are adults.

The Massage School program was started in 2012. . The modalities of emphasis include the Classic Relaxation and Stress Reduction with an introduction to assisting in Pain Management and Functional Structure changes. The program curriculum was developed through the guidelines provided by the Commission on Massage Therapy Accreditation (COMTA), Federations of State Massage Therapy Boards (FSMTB) outline of the MBLEx licensing test, and Association of Bodywork and
Massage Professionals (ABMP).

JRTI has a full-time Job Placement Coordinator on staff that assists with career openings and availabilities. In addition to this, each instructor teaches interviewing and resume writing skills
that are specific to your chosen industry.
